I’ve been illustrating full time since 2001 when I got my first job doing the Afrikaans graphic novel “Agent Snoet en die Botterdiamant” written by François Bloemhof and published by LAPA Publishers. Since then I’ve worked for numerous publishers doing children and educational book illustrations. I also do work for independent publishers, advertising agencies as well as private commissions. In 2009 one of the books I illustrated, “Cowboy Koekoemer van die Klein Karoo” won an ATKV Woordveertjie for its illustrations, and in 2011 the fourth installment of the Agent Snoet series, “Agent Snoet en die Groen Genugtig” also won an ATKV Woordveertjie. I’m really blessed to be able to do this job, since I’ve had no formal training, and have had learn the trade as I went along. Prior to doing this I gave art classes, worked for a fast food franchise and tinkered with computers. Besides illustrating I also present short courses in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign at the Stellenbosh Academy of Design & Photography.
